How it is built
A useful line through the garden.
Pathways are small structures. Route, ground, edge and water still matter, even when the job is only a few metres long.

Trace the route
We look at the shortest useful line, the natural route people take and how machinery or bins need to move.

Resolve the edge
Kerbs and restraints hold the shape of a path and stop adjoining soil or gravel spreading into it.

Prepare the ground
Soft ground is removed and the base is compacted so the path does not settle unevenly.

Build through wet spots
Drainage and falls are dealt with where water naturally gathers rather than left for the surface finish to solve.
Before you decide
Questions worth asking.
Can you add kerbs to an existing driveway?+
Often, yes. We inspect the existing edge and levels to see whether a new restraint can be installed without creating a drainage or trip problem.
Is gravel suitable for a garden path?+
It can be an attractive and economical option when the base, edging and stone size are right. We will tell you where paving may be more practical.
Can the path be made accessible?+
We can discuss width, gradient, firmness and step-free transitions during the site visit and recommend a suitable surface.
